Choctaw

Sheila Reneé Acree of Choctaw, Oklahoma, passed away on May 6th, 2025; she was 69 years old. Sheila was born to Kenneth and Yuvonne Brown on June 18th, 1955. She was a homemaker and homeschool teacher to her three children until they finished high school. She loved planting flowers and decorating her garden with little gnomes. She was a naturally creative person and enjoyed redecorating her home, often with a jungle theme featuring tigers, monkeys, and especially elephants. Her creativity also shone through during the holidays, as she was renowned for the care and attention she put into wrapping Christmas presents, each one a small work of art in its own right. She was in the high school band, playing percussion, including bells and the glockenspiel. She loved TV and movies, including Korean dramas and K-pop. She was a spiritual woman with a deep relationship with God and made sure to pass it on to her children, including Bible studies in their homeschooling.

She married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Acree, in 1975. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by her loving mother, Yuvonne Brown; her three children, Brandon Thomas Acree, Nathan Carl Acree, and Aimee Michelle Acree; and her two older brothers, Terry Brown and Kenny Brown.

She was a devoted grandmother to Brandon’s children, Maliya, Elliott, and Starling, as well as to Aimee’s daughter, Eleanor.

Sheila had a special quality that naturally drew people to her and made them open up. While she was often a quiet person, once you got close to her or engaged her in a conversation about one of her interests, her lively and passionate nature would shine through. She was the perfect balance to Tom, especially when raising their children, offering a kindness and patience that few could match. Her strength and resilience in facing life's challenges remain an inspiration to all who knew her.
