Suzette Sims

Suzette Sims, 80 of Choctaw, Oklahoma passed peacefully Sunday, September 6th, 2026 at St Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was surrounded by her loved ones. Suzette was born on March 24th, 1946 to Louise Sr. and Lorency Johnico in a rural hospital in Latimer County. She was the third of six children. Suzette attended Choctaw High School in Choctaw, Oklahoma. The town where she would spend the rest of her life. In 1978, she joined the United States Air Force as a member of the Oklahoma Air National Guard. She would go on to faithfully serve her country for over thirty years. Assisting in operations from Panama, the Gulf War and the aftermath of 9/11. Suzette retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. Suzette married Robert Allen Sims on December 16th, 1988. Together they would raise several foster children as well as grandchildren. They were together until he passed away in March of 2013. After her retirement, Sue found a second calling in the Choctaw Alliance. She was one of their most endearing members. She helped out in countless ways such as volunteering, helping raise money and being an advocate. The members of OCTA will miss her greatly. Sue took joy in going on vacations exploring the places she visited. She was always eager to see and buy from any garage or estate sales she came across. She looked forward to peach season every year. She enjoyed her time at Wind Drift Orchards, picking peaches, pruning the trees and helping customers. Regardless of the temperature outside, she always had a smile on her face and was eager to help wherever needed. She loved ending the season there with their Haunt in Harrah event. She loved to cook for people, especially her grandkids. Chocolate pies, chocolate sheet cakes, banana pudding, peach cobbler among numerous other home made goods. Most importantly, her famous Grandma's Indian Tacos. Her homemade fry bread was known by all. She also enjoyed winning big at the casinos. (which she mostly gave back) Suzette LOVED going to the casinos. They too will miss her. Suzette built a life filled with love. Always helping out friends and family in whatever way she could. She is survived by 2 loving daughters, Judy Harris and husband Greg of Harrah. Paula Mitchell and husband Mike of Choctaw. Eleven grandkids, seventeen great grandkids and one great-great grandchild. Who all affectionately called her "Gigi". And let's not forget about her beloved dog Bounce. Sue is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Myrtle King, Mildred King, and Louise Johnico Jr. Her husband Robert Sims, her sons David and Robert Martinez, and great granddaughter, Brooklyn Scott. The world has lost a strong, wonderful woman that brought joy and life to everyone who knew her. May Suzette Sims rest in peace. Fly high Gigi.
